概要	This paper reexamines the Sapir-Whorf hypothesis which indicates that humans perceive the world differently depending on which language we use because we have different expressions to refer to the same thing/event. I compared languages using alphabets with Japanese which uses the main three writing systems (i.e. kanji, hiragana and katakana). Recent studies have found that only the left hemisphere functions to recognize alphabets while both the right and left hemispheres function for the recognition of the Japanese writing systems. This finding is relevant to the Sapir-Whorf hypothesis. Namely, different writing systems affect how we perceive written content in terms of the different cognitive processes.
